59 How Beautiful Are You?

Tuesday, September 14, 2010

I grew up reading and knowing that a thing of beauty is a joy forever! It left an indelible mark on my mind and soul as a child... When I was young, I read many books, including fairy tales. Most of the books described heroes who were handsome and heroines who were beautiful. So, I believed I had to be beautiful if I wanted to become a great person. It was a hard time for me. Whenever I looked at someone who was more beautiful than me, I was stressed.
There were times, when young Anvitha ran to her momma saying “Mommy, I wanna look pretty!! I wanna be the most beautiful!” and my momma; with all her cuddles and hugs, answered me with a smile saying; “Dear, You are the most beautiful kid on earth!” I often smiled back; but there were way too many things running in my mind. I wondered why she was lying:-? Because I knew, am NOT the most beautiful girl on this planet. For sure! There was this good looking blonde in my class, whose complexion was fair as the moon and whose skin was bright as the sun. With a long golden hair, pink lips and blue eyes; she was Barbie of my class and school! I envied her! :| I hated being a brunette :( (Something which am proud of now, though :D)

Time passed by and we grew up to be matured individuals… (Atleast me :P :D) That perfect Barbie looking blonde was still around in my higher secondary school but no longer do I see her with friends around! A guy who wooed her in primary school now says he wouldn’t turn to her even if she’s the last woman on earth left for him! I started realizing the meaning and importance of inner beauty! Now I know that my mom wasn’t lying!Truly said, Beauty is in the eye of the beholder… Because when you ask someone like me, “Who’s the most beautiful woman on earth” I may not need a breath to answer “Mother Teresa” and someone like my friend next door may answer “Jessica Simpson”! My brother may say “Marilyn Monroe” and my Mom says it’s “Oprah Winfrey” for being the strong and confident woman she is! What does this mean? Who’s the wrong judge among us? No; nobody! Be it be Mother Teresa, Oprah Winfrey or Marilyn Monroe, it’s not the beauty in them, rather it’s the beauty in our eyes which makes us look at something beautifully!

When I was 5, I drew colored lines on a paper, made it as clumsy as possible and wrote on the paper “I love you daddy”! And my dad still preserved the piece of paper saying it’s the most beautiful painting he had ever seen! Obviously, it’s a beautiful painting only for my dad and to the rest of the world, it’s a joke.
One of my cousins, who madly fell in love with this beautiful girl who looks extra ordinarily good, married her just to realize there is nothing extra ordinary in her, rather she has some serious attitude problems! He wanted a life where he wants his wife to be his best friend, the one who brings energy into his family and home! But it rather turned out to be a day in and day out game where he has to keep her and himself away from his near and dear just to avoid further drama… During my collage days, I’ve read this world famous ballad “La Belle Dame sans Merci” (French: "The Beautiful Lady without Pity") by the English poet John Keats. Something which describes all that glitters is not gold!
Well, does this mean good looks do not carry any weight? I asked my mommy. And she says “They do carry their weight! You can't judge a book by its cover.... but if it has an attractive cover, you're more likely to take it off the shelf and see what's inside. Just the difference is; today’s youth picks the book which has an attractive cover and often miss to read what’s inside the book. And by the time they realize the book is not their kind; it’s too late!”
And for all the women who feel they are not beautiful… “Girls, we are wonderfully and beautifully created by God. He gave us all the physical attributes that attracts any damn person to us. But much more is the inner beauty or the beauty of the soul. Don't buy the lies of the media and the industry that says you have to be a size four to be beautiful. Look into the inner part of you. That's who you really are. That's what makes you, ‘YOU’. True beauty is intangible. You have that. Find it and accentuate who you really are. We don’t need a man who loves us because we look beautiful! We need a man who loves us for what we are! And if you are loved for what you are, he’ll find you the most beautiful :)”

well,u came up again with a great great post ;))
See beauty has nothing to do with looks .Inner beauty is more important than the outer looks ;))
If looks are important ,only Miss.India('s) and models and actresses will be getting married ;))
So people dont go with ur looks, just be urself and think u r the most beautiful person in the world.Who has a beautiful heart and soul is the most beautiful person (like me ,lol just kidding like Anvitha) ;))

Well framed and nice work. Beauty and love are two different, distinct issues where one has got nothing to do with the other. Beauty is physical and love is spiritual. Todays generations links beauty with love. Thats the base of failed love stories and broken marriages. Good attempt Anvitha.

Anvitha said...

Thnx Parthasarathy garu :). yeah I agree with you. Beauty is physical and love is spiritual.

sanath(pittal)

Anvitha said...

Hey Sanath, Thank You. And let me make one thing clear here :) The whole post is for both boys and girls .. inner beauty is not gender biased.. And the last stanza was the only one pointed directly for girls; because; the pressure to look beautiful is more on gals.. and in general; a woman is more stressed with "I am not beautiful" feeling than a man! bcuz a society may adore an ugly man but not an ugly woman!! Statistically, 70% of woman have inferior feelings about their looks while only a mere 10% of men have that! Exceptionals were not taken into consideration since they may take all my blog's space :) This was a general post...

__--sameer--__ said...

i will use emami fair and handsome for men to become more handosome lol just kidding ;)) . Ya i totally agree with Anvitha here that a ugly man is adored by this society but not a ugly woman. But As Parthasarathy sir said today's generation looks for outer beauty (looks) than inner beauty ;)) so all of u ,use fair and lovely too :-P .kidding again ;))

Anvitha said...

Hola Sameer! I dont wanna use any cream to get prettier! neither am I good looking. Rather, I feel am blessed this way, because, I know for sure that the guy who loves me; would love me for what I am! I wont be wondering like other pretty girls whether he would love me the same if I get awkward in future :P:P. I truly am blessed!

__--sameer--__ said...

lol i was kidding and u took it seriously or in any other way ;)) i already told u that u r one of the most beautiful persons of this world ;)) no cream will help u or any others to become beautiful. yes u r a blessed girl ;)) i was just advertising for these products lol =))

Anvitha said...

Hey Sameer :D I know you were kidding =)) You were advertising for the products and I was propaganding not to use them =)) Thats it

Hey young lady! You are right. When I was a kid even I wanted the perfect blonde look and I hated being a brunette. But now, I love being a brunette because my guy loves brunettes. Am proud to be a brunette! But then again, looks are least mattered! Inner beauty should shout about a person, not the way he/she looks!

Anvitha said...

Hi Azwerena! Thnks for the comment; yes, as a kid, I longed for a blonde look and hated being a brunette as I mentioned in the post! But now, no matter how I look, I love myself!

This is what is called skin deep beauty!

Beryl said...

I agree that one must be beautiful from within. At the same time, looking good is important too. Though not as important as inner beauty. Looking good boosts our self confidence and makes us feel good of ourselves. A glowing skin makes out heart active and glow too. Further, in this competitive world, everybody goes on looks first and other things next.

Anvitha said...

Hi Beryl! Well, I think otherwise. if we are happy and self-confident, that shows in our eyes and skin. No matter how good our skin is and how glossy our eyes are; if the happiness, self confidence and pure thinking are missing; we may end up looking a devil! You say that if we look good we will feel good whereas I opine that if we feel good we will look good. And when it comes to "Competitive world".. who is it? It isnt the mud, rocks and trees. It is WE!! WE are world and yes, think and do what you feel. You change and the world will change :)

Beryl said...

Yeah, may be you are right! Because Obama isnt a good looking person but still I feel he is very handsome...lol. And its in my eyes, not him. And I wanna be more confident to look more beautiful :P. By the way, since my childhood and even now, I hate being a blonde =(( I want the brunette look :(.. The dark black hair and briwn eyes.. ahh how I love it.

Beryl said...

Hey Anvitha, and I wanna tell you something. Me and my sis are twins. My dad is a black man and my mom is a blonde. Though me and Sophie are twins, am a blonde she a brunette. Wonders of nature lol. We are twins, both look good and fair, but completely different!! Nobody on earth would ever agree that we are sisters, and share same DNA! But the fact is, we are just not sisters, we are twin sisters. Just felt like sharing!

Anvitha said...

Thnx for Sharing this Beryl... I've seen black and white twins and have heard blonde-brunette twins. Yes, wonders of nature!! Happy to know that I have a blonde frnd who has brunette twin! I would love to see you both together :D

I dont know wether your mother told it or if its ur opinion, but what you said your mom told was absolutely correct! "You can't judge a book by its cover.. but if it has an attractive cover, you're more likely to take it off the shelf and see what's inside. Just the difference is; today’s youth picks the book which has an attractive cover and often miss to read what’s inside the book. Also, everyone is beautiful in their own different ways; that is with physical and mental.

PS- Now in U.S.A all this blonde fair chic wanting to be tanned(brownish) like us and also love our tradition and also they find all this Indian women are beautiful.

and Yes dont listen to the media =) if your mind and thoughts are beautiful everything else will fall in place.

where did my post go?

Anvitha said...

Hey Bella, I agree, many Americans and British admire our traditions and values. Thnks for the comment ;))

SandeepLaxman said...

Good post. The reason why 70% girls feel inferior and only 10% men feel so is Girls cant dare, and more importantly the society is male dominated which makes a women feel inferior not only in looks but in everything.. This is the main reason why even some woman working in Indian corporate companies complain abt harassment, sexually abusing etc . The situation is totally different in other countries because woman are bound to have freedom and are not too bothered about their ethics !

SandeepLaxman said...

Umm..What about those men who dont look handsome and want a beautiful girl to marry ?
Well I have seen many beautiful woman marrying black skinned guys.. Most of the Srilankan men who are black skinned marry beautiful girls !

Anvitha said...

I disagree with your statement Sandeep!! Who said black-skinned guys aren't handsome? Infact I find black skinned and dusky skinned guys handsome and hot!! They are n times better looking than many fair skinned girls!!

Let Anvitha Know What You Feel About this..:)
