When I was 7…
Me: “ Awwhh Mommy :( these oats taste yakk :-&! I hate them…”
Me: “But….”
Mommy: “No ifs and buts :| you have 5 mins to empty the bowl”
Me: “Yeah.. I will. Hey momma!! your new dress is so great! Oh you got new sandals too? :D When am I getting the same kinda dress and sandals?? I need the same color….”
Mommy: “You will, but you need to wait!! You have a new dress almost every week and you grow up so fast that many dresses in your wardrobe are used for few hours and they have no use now…”
In my teens…
Mommy: “Got your mark sheet mailed to me. Don’t you think you are getting careless about your studies day by day? And why are you home so late?”
Me: “Oh Momma, take a chill pill ;) I fare better than many other friends of mine… I went to tennis court and got lost there!”
Mommy: “ You could’ve informed me... Atleast an SMS?”
Me: “Oh Momma, stop bugging me! Am no more a kid. You don’t ask the same questions to bro, do you?"
Mommy: “But…”
Me: “Mooooooooooooommmmmmm 8-|!”
[Grabs my phone]
Me: “Goodnight Momma!”
[Gets into ma room and bangs the door shutting myself in]
After my teens...
Me: “My friend”
Mommy: “Friend?!?”
Me: “Do you wanna listen anything else other than that?!?”
Mommy: “Forget it…”
Me: “Better!”
I paused here wondering what our future conversation would be like… Spoke to many mothers and daughters, surfed, peeped into my mom’s and grand mom’s relationship!! It was perfect till this point and happens in every woman’s life! And this would be the circle of relationship of a mother and daughter!!
Daughter: “Oh mommy!! How many times I asked you to empty the bowl of these oats! I know they taste awful but you also know they work awesome on your health”
Mom: “I know… by the way, where did you get your new dress from? It looks so bright and good, I liked it”
[Takes the similar dress to her mom- the same day]
Few Years later:
On Phone:
Daughter: “ Momma, am at wits end with your granddaughter ~x(! She hates almost everything I tell her, shez never back home on time, fares low at academics and above all, when I ask her something, she feels am intruding!!”
Mom: “ :)…”
Daughter: “You there?”
Mom: “Yeah!! I was just wondering… weren’t you the same in your teens? And I was the same in my teens too…”
Daughter: “ I know how it hurts! Am so sorry momma :(... I love you so much! You are my best friend”
The closest bond in the family is the one that is shared by a mother and her daughter. Theirs is a bittersweet relationship, which goes through numerous ups and downs in life and in the end, still turns out to be the most intimate of all the other relations.
In her childhood, a daughter copies her mom and wants to be just like her. At the age of five, her mother is like her goddess. She smears her face with her mom's lipstick and models her earrings and high heels, wanting to be just like mommy. She applies her nail polish, mimics her creams-smothering motion and tries to do everything that she sees her mother doing.
As she enters teenage, a daughter suddenly becomes the most ignorant and out-of-touch creature on the planet, for her mother. In this phase of her life, a daughter feels that her own mother does not understand her feelings. She prefers her friends over her mother and spends as much time away from home as possible. Then, somewhere between her twenties, a daughter realizes that the friend she was searching for throughout the teenage years was so near to her all the time and she is none other than her own mom! The relationship between a daughter and her mother is so complex, yet so simple. When it comes to a woman and her daughter, fights are so common, be it because of the wide age gap between the two or due to the mom being over protective of her daughter or owing to the fact that the mom still treats her grown-up daughter like a kid.
Whenever there is a problem, the mother-daughter duo will be seen standing alongside and facing the world together. A daughter learns to be a woman from her mother. Even after a daughter becomes a mother, she is pampered by her mother. This is what makes their relationship all the more special… :) I love you Momma!! Am what I am today, just becuz of you!

Hey Admirer :P thnx
I still remember how I bothered my mother as a teenager. she was always concerned about my safety and I thought she was interfering too much into my life. Now I have a 3 year old daughter and I can already see me as a kid in her! Now I understand what being mother of a daughter is. You are right, this is a bitter-sweet circle relationship! Was good to see the telephonic conversation because now a days whenever I call my amma thats what I say. "Am sorry amma" And am afraid what my daughter will take me through as a teenager when she grows up
I have no words to say. I have tears in my eyes. I love you Anvitha. I really miss those good olden days with my mom.
This is all bull shit. Moms never understand their daughters. My mother have problem with whatever I do and she scolds and screams on me for every minute thing. I hate her. i want freedom from her
How old are you Reena?
I am 18. Major now.
That explains. I was the same at your age! wait for 4 more years; and you will realize she is your best friend!
No. My mother is a devil.
My Mother too, when I was at your age! But now she is an angel..
hoooooo... Good post
So a devil grew up to be an angel when she grew old?
She was always the same! I grew up and got matured enough to understand whoz devil and whoz angel...
Its difficult to talk to you Anvitha. Where are you from?
You are incredibly good Anvitha. You rock. Keep going.
Thnx Reena! I take it as a compliment. Am from Hyd, India.
